In-depth analysis of maintenance-free battery technology

Tongli car batteries utilize innovative high-purity lead fully sealed technology. Throughout the battery’s lifespan, you do not need to add any distilled water, ensuring truly plug-and-play convenience and peace of mind. The superior internal structure design ensures that the battery continues to provide a strong and stable starting current to your vehicle even in extreme cold or heat.

How does a maintenance-free battery work?

A maintenance free battery works by using special materials inside that reduce water loss during chemical reactions. In older batteries, charging and discharging caused water to evaporate quickly. This made refilling necessary.

Modern designs use calcium-based alloys and improved separators. These materials slow down evaporation and help control gas formation. In some batteries, gases are recombined into liquid inside the battery case.

Because of this technology, the battery can stay sealed and operate normally without user intervention.

Does “Maintenance-Free” Mean Completely Neglectful?

It’s important to clarify that “maintenance-free” doesn’t mean users can completely ignore the battery. Maintenance-free batteries can still experience performance degradation due to sulfation, overcharging, aging, and other factors. Regularly checking battery conductivity, maintaining the charging system, and avoiding prolonged parking that leads to depletion of the battery remain effective ways to extend battery life.

Proper Use of Maintenance-Free Batteries

Even with a maintenance-free design, good usage habits directly affect the battery’s actual lifespan:

Avoid prolonged parking and battery drain: When the vehicle is parked for extended periods, the battery’s self-discharge and the static current from the anti-theft system will continuously consume power. If the battery is parked for more than two weeks, it is recommended to disconnect the negative terminal or periodically recharge it using a maintenance charger.

Maintain a proper charging system: Alternator voltage regulator failure is one of the common causes of premature battery failure. Regularly measure the battery terminal voltage while the vehicle is running; the normal range should be between 13.5-14.8V. Excessively high or low charging voltage will affect battery life.

Avoid prolonged use of high-power electrical appliances: Using high-power electrical appliances such as audio systems, air conditioning fans, and interior lights for extended periods with the engine off will cause deep discharge of the battery, resulting in irreversible damage to the plates.

Protect the battery in low-temperature environments: Low temperatures in winter significantly reduce the battery’s capacity output. Owners in extremely cold regions may consider using a battery insulation cover or choosing a battery model with better low-temperature starting performance.
